New York City Amateur Championship 2025: Matthew Lowe Wins with Final-Round 68
STATEN ISLAND, NY — This Memorial Day Weekend,
Matthew Lowe added his name to the list of city champions by winning the
2025 New York City Amateur Championship at
La Tourette Golf Course in Staten Island.
Lowe posted rounds of 74 and 73 over the first two days to position himself just one shot behind the lead. On the final day, he fired a tournament-low 68 to surge to the top and claim a one-stroke win with a total score of 215. His final round was the only sub-70 score of the tournament, and it proved to be the decisive factor in holding off Andrew Lim and James Arbes, who both finished tied at 216.
Classic Championship Feel in Staten Island
The NYC Amateur is one of the most accessible yet competitive events in the Northeast. Played over 54 holes and open to amateurs meeting handicap criteria, the event drew a strong field in the Men’s, Senior, and Super Senior Divisions. La Tourette Golf Course, a staple of the New York City public golf scene, provided a classic test with its narrow corridors, sloping greens, and strategic layout.
This year’s leaderboard was tightly packed heading into the final round, with three players tied at 146. But Lowe’s final-round performance stood out as the tournament's defining stretch of golf. He moved ahead of the leaders and held on through the back nine to secure the title.
Lim and Arbes One Shot Short
Andrew Lim and James Arbes both played solid golf over all three rounds. Lim matched Lowe with a strong closing effort, while Arbes had been in contention from the start. Their shared second-place finish reflected the competitive depth of the championship, as just a single shot separated the top three players.
Other notable finishers included Jonathan Renza in fourth place at 220 and Brian Hale in fifth at 221. A total of ten players broke 226 for the tournament, demonstrating the quality of play throughout the field.
