VALLEJO, Calif. (Jan. 4, 2009) -- The 7th annual amateurgolf.com North Bay Championship seemed to be heading for a three-way playoff until the final card of the day was recorded.

Andrew Moren, a recent graduate of Cal State Stanislaus, produced a final-round of 71, tied for the low score of the day, and ended up coming away with a two-stroke victory.

He finished at even-par 144 (73-71) in the chilly conditions that had golfers waiting until 10:15 for the frost warning to lift.

"I'd have to say I was just managing my game, managing the course," said Moren. "I stayed out of the hazards, which if you know that course is important. It came down to chipping, getting up-and-down and staying patient."

Playing in the final group with leader Matthew Hansen, who opened the tourney with a course record tying 67, Moren was able to avoid trouble en route to the victory.

"Coming in I didn't think I had a real chance at winning," said Moren, who is working on his game with an eye on turning professional. "I stayed in (Hansen's) shadow was able to catch him in the end."

He said the turning point may have came late in the round.

"It was probably on 15, the downhill par-3," said Moren. "I thought I hit just an okay shot, but I got a generous bounce up to a few inches and made birdie, that was a big boost."

Hansen, junior at Morro Bay High School who resides in Los Osos, couldn't keep up his torrid pace from Day 1, finishing in a tie for second at 2-over 146.

He was joined by Cal Berkley's Eric Mina and UCLA's Taylor Travis. Cal Poly golfer Geoff Gonzalez rounded out the top-5 at 147.

In the Net Division, Vacaville's Dave Nikitin fired an impressive net 66 to overtake Fred Luper and take the victory.

Nikitin finished at 143 to Luper's 145.
