🏆 Jon Ed Steed Wins 2025 Magnolia Amateur
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Vanderbilt incoming freshman Jon Ed Steed capped off a stellar week at Hattiesburg Country Club with a final-round 65 to win the 14th Magnolia Amateur by one shot. His 54-hole total of 14-under-par 199 (66–68–65) held off hard-charging contenders Grant Doggett (-13) and Jackson Benge (-12).
Steed, from Enterprise, Alabama, caught fire on the back nine Thursday, carding five birdies in a seven-hole stretch from Holes 11 through 17. With poise beyond his years, the 18-year-old closed with a clutch par on 18 to secure the win and the $1,000 top prize.
Steed becomes the third Vanderbilt player to win a summer amateur title in 2025, joining teammates Ryan Downes (117th Massachusetts Amateur) and Carlos Astiazaran (North & South and Mexican National Amateur).
Round 1 leader Grant Doggett (University of Houston) posted rounds of 63–70–67 and finished solo second at 13-under 200. Jackson Benge (Lipscomb) followed in third with 68–65–68 for 201.
With a deep field of elite collegiate and mid-amateur talent, the Magnolia Amateur once again delivered a thrilling finish — and introduced another rising name to watch on the amateur and collegiate circuits.
