amateurgolf.com Two Man Links: Round 2
BANDON, Oregon (April 6, 2009) -- At the halfway point of the 8th annual Two Man Links Championship, three teams are tied for the lead in the Net Division, while Sherman Haggerty and Ben Whipple of El Dorado Hills, Calf. lead the Seniors by 3 over Jeff Newton and Chuck Parsons. Newton is also from Northern California (Pleasanton) while his partner made the trip from Springfield, Ohio.
Andrew Matagrano and Greg Wardle of San Francisco lead the small Championship Division after an even par 71 today at Bandon Trails.
With it's devilishly undulating greens -- several of which with false fronts, slope-away sides, or both -- Bandon Trails is the most difficult of the three courses at the resort. Par is a good number on every hole.
On Tuesday players head back to Pacific Dunes, where the first round was contested, and the tournament wraps up at the original course, Bandon Dunes, on Wednesday.
TOURNAMENT NOTES:
* The first two days of competition have seen temperatures in the high 60's, with sunshine and light winds that have all of us peeling off layers throughout the day. Tournament Director Jake Wiese's father Loren called Sunday the "best day in 40 years".
* Tournament sponsor Straight Down provided all players with really swank windshirts, and Tuesday night's tournament dinner will feature a scotch tasting with Macallan 18 and prizes from sponsors SeeMore, Bridgestone Golf, Prize Possessions, and Lamkin Grips. Thank you to all of these wonderful companies.
