Guthrie leads Dixie Amateur
CORAL SPRINGS, Florida (December 21, 2009) -- Breaking out of a pack of four players who were tied at 67 after the first round of the Dixie Amateur is Luke Guthrie, who today posted a 66 to lead the tournament by two with one round left.
Rains from the storm that swept the eastern U.S. totally washed out Saturday's first round, and when players finally teed it up on Sunday conditions were difficult.
"It was pretty tough on Sunday, and not everyone finished," explained Brian Cohen of the Heron Bay golf staff.
Those who couldn't get their rounds in due to darkness finished on Monday morning. They will follow the same routine on Tuesday, and once everyone has played 36 holes a cut will be made, and the low 60 plus ties will go out and play immediately after.
Some of the players who still need to finish their second round include Walker Cupper Morgan Hoffman (first round 71), and former USGA Junior Champ Cory Whitsett (first round 69).
Blake Morris of Clearwater Beach Florida is in second place at 135 while Peter Uihlein, ranked No. 2 in the Golfweek/amateurgolf.com World Rankings, is another stroke back at 136.
