MERCED, Calif. (July 18, 2010) -- Salinas' Rickey Stockton won the overall title and Modesto's Jeff Burda was the top senior at the Merced County Golf Championships at Merced Golf and Country Club on Sunday.

Stockton shot a 6-under 136. Burda finished the 36-hole event at 4-under 140.

The Championship division was strong as usual, but the tournament has turned into a mini "major" for NCGA senior points players. As a matter of fact, 15 of the top 20 on the senior points list played the event.

"It's almost like this is a major for the seniors," head pro Mike Waller said. "In the past, it was a major tournament for the championship flight. It's funny how it's switched."

Waller, who owns the course record of 61 that was nearly tied by Rickey Stockton, set the course up tough, with extra tricky pins on Sunday. Temperatures near 100 degrees only added to the drama.
