SAVANNAH, Georgia (July 25, 2010) -- 42-year-old Jack Hall of Sea Island, Georgia quietly cruised to a four stroke victory at the Oglethorpe Invitational. His play in the 28th annual event was described by his younger competitors as basically, well, boring.
Hall, who works in commercial real estate, told the Savannah Morning News:
"On the 18th tee after I hit my drive, (the playing partners) said, 'You played boring golf.' I said, 'Thank you,' '' recalled Hall, who in 2005 also won what is regarded as Savannah's premier amateur tournament.
"The biggest difference (from 2005) is the kids are younger and it's more of a Southeastern flair," said Hall, 53. "The quality of the field has gotten better. There's a good Savannah contingent and good national amateurs coming down."
"If the mistake was going to be made, it was my mistake," Hall went on to tell the Morning News. "If they made birdies to catch me, so be it."
