McCoy sets pace at Crump Cup
Pine Valley, NJ (Sept. 9, 2010) -- Three time George Arthur Crump Memorial Tournament champion Michael McCoy of West Des Moines, IA leads the field with an even par score of 70 after the first round of qualifying. McCoy made three birdies over the windswept course and leads his nearest competitor Michael Muehr of Potomac Falls, MD by one shot. Tomorrow the seventy two player field will complete the 36 hole stroke play qualifying for three flights of sixteen in the mid-am division.
John C. Daniel of McLean, MD, Steve Smyers of Lakeland, FL, Allan Small of Florham Park, NJ and Jack Vardaman of Washington, D.C. lead the senior division with a score of 74. Thirty seven senior players are competing for three flights of eight.

Pine Valley -- is arguably the premier mid-
amateur
event in the United States. The invitational field
is
made of of top players from around the United
States
and the UK. The format for the four days is two
rounds
of stroke play qualifying, followed by four
rounds
of
match play. Players are flighted according to
their
qualifying position, and a separate Senior flight
includes three of those flights. Jay Sigel has won
the
event the most times, with nine victories
between
1975 and 1993.
Normally, the public is invited to attend the Sunday
final matches but that tradition has been suspended.
