COLUMBUS, OH. (Oct12, 2010) -- Oklahoma State captured the Jack Nicklaus Invitational on Tuesday, closing with a 4-over 284 to capture its second team title of the fall.

The Cowboys, No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, posted a three-round total of 24-over 864, six shots ahead of Illinois at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. Texas finished third, seven shots behind.

Illinois junior Luke Guthrie earned his first career title by shooting 5-under 205, three shots clear of Oklahoma State’s Peter Uihlein. Guthrie is No. 68 in Golfweek’s rankings. Arkansas’ Jamie Marshall was third, and Southern Cal’s Jeffrey Kang, Arkansas’ Ethan Tracy and USC’s T.J. Vogel tied for fourth. Only two players broke par at Scioto.

Oklahoma State hasn’t finished worse than second in three starts this spring, including victories at the Ping/Golfweek Preview – played at its home course, Karsten Creek – and now at the Jack Nicklaus Invite. The Cowboys will close out the fall season later this month at the Isleworth Collegiate, which they’ll play without their top player, Uihlein, who will compete in the World Amateur Team Championship in Argentina. Uihlein, the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, has a win and two runner-up finishes this season.
