Anderson wins Farmers Qualifying at Torrey Pines
San Diego, CA (October 30, 2010 ) Josh Anderson of Murrieta earned the Sponsors Exemption to participate in the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines with his win at the 27th annual Farmers Insurance Open Amateur Qualifying event held at Torrey Pines South golf course.
Anderson, a junior advertising major from Pepperdine University shot a four-under-par 68 to earn a spot in the upcoming PGA TOUR event scheduled for January 24-30.
This is Anderson’s second win in the Amateur Qualifier having qualified in the 2009.
Anderson birdied the 18th hole to finish one shot ahead of Trent Castro and Nick Delio.
“I’m really excited to be back in the Farmers Insurance Open event. It was a great experience in 2009. My goal is to make the cut this time around,” said Anderson who shot 73-74 for 147 in 2009. “I missed a short putt on my final hole on the South to miss by one stroke. I’m hoping this time will be different.” Anderson played in the event with professionals Jason Day and Bob Heintz.
The starting field consisted of top local and regional players that included all 100 players, with a 0 or better handicap. The event is sponsored by Century Club of San Diego.
Only three players have made the professional cut in the previous 22 years -- Pat Duncan in 50th place in 1989, Steve Haase 75th place in 1989 and Charley Hoffman in 76th place in 1996.
