FRESNO, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2010) -- Modesto’s Jeff Burda, seeking his third straight California State Senior Championship, maintained his two-stroke lead heading into the final round at Ft. Washington GCC in Fresno.

On a day that saw just one sub-par round, the 57-year-old posted a one-over 73 that has him three-under for the event following an opening 68. Burda recently made a run to the semifinals of the USGA Senior Amateur at Lake Nona in Orlando, Florida, and has dominated this event the past two years at Poppy Hills. Earlier in the year, the Del Rio member captured the NCGA Senior for the second time and finished runner-up at the NCGA Senior Valley. Burda carded a stellar four-under 68 on the 6,563-yard course in a round that featured seven birdies.

Burda’s four-ball partner, Jim Knoll of Sunnyvale, maintained second-place position, matching Burda’s second round score. NCGA Senior Match Play Champion Dan Bieber is third, four back of Burda.

In the North-South Team Competition, the NCGA dominated its SCGA counterparts 429 – 457. After succeeding last year, the North leads 11-5 overall over the South. The 429 score, produced by the team of Jeff Burda, Jim Knoll, Mark Miller and Dan Bieber was a new record. Boyd Martin, David Ujihara, Robert Carver and Kemp Richardson comprised the SCGA team.

The cut to the 33 low scores plus ties for the final round Wednesday at Ft. Washington came at 10-over 154.
