Zylstra Wins Riverwood Invitational
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (January 5, 2011) -- Bill Zylstra, from Ocklawaha, Florida defended his title at the Riverwood Senior Invitational on Wednesday with conviction, winning by 7 strokes despite closing with his highest score of the three round event.
Zylstra, the third ranked player in the 2010
amateurgolf.com Senior Player-of-the-Year points race, was 8-under, posting rounds of 69-66-73=208. Zylstra became the only three time winner in the 16 year history of the event.
Sam Till of Fort Wayne, Indiana was the closest competitor at 1-under, shooting rounds of 74-70-71=215.
Chip Lutz, the 2010 Senior Player-of-the-Year, was not in the field but second ranked Ron Carter of Indiana was. Carter finished tied for 6th at 222.
SUPER SENIOR DIVISION
Gary Strickfaden of Pinehurst, NC, shot rounds of 69-68-76 to capture the Super Senior division by a whopping 12-strokes. Carlos Salaber of Naples Florida finished in second place; he slid to a 79 on Wednesday after posting rounds of 71-75 on the first two days.
