Golfweek Senior National: Wire to Wire for Lutz
MIAMI, FL (Jan 18, 2011) -- 2010 top ranked Senior golf Chip Lutz went wire to wire to win the Golfweek Senior National Championship at the famous Doral Resort and Spa by five strokes over Pat Vincelli. Lutz, from Reading, Pa, set the tone that he is ready to regain the number 1 position from rival Bill Zylstra who was not in the field this week.
Lutz got off to hot start with a 66, which was good for two stroke lead over Pat Vincelli from Rosemont, MN. Lutz added to his lead after the second round with 71 to Vincelli's 72.
On the final day Lutz started hot again with consecutive birdies on the par-5 second hole and the par-4 third. But he stumbled midway through the round, going 4-over-par in seven holes. With Vincelli just three strokes back, Lutz made an impressive birdie on the par-3 15th and followed it with another on the par-5 16th.
This was Lutz's First event of the year. He earned 700 amateurgolf.com/Golfweek ranking points for the victory and currently trails the number one ranked Zylstra by 900 points.
