SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (March 4, 2011) -- All of the usual suspects have risen to the top of the Senior Championship bracket at the San Francisco Men's Senior Championship at Harding Park.
In Wednesday's quarterfinals, defending champ Herb Jensen defeated Scott Anderson, who had played taken 26 holes to defeat Ray Kong the week before in what has been the longest match so far. The next day, Jensen defeated his friend Jay Guerin, 3 and 2.
Jensen will play a past California State Senior Amateur Champion - Rob Thompson of Merced. John Seed, who lost to Thompson in the first round, said of Thompson: "He holed a lot of great putts against me. He's rolling the ball really well."
2010 NCGA Senior POY Mark Miller (shown in photo above left) got past two tough customers this week; Bob Rowland on Wednesday and Paul Balatti in Thursday's quarterfinal round. He will play "Mr. Fresno" -- Doug Johnson, in the semi-finals. Johnson defeated the always tough John Enright on Thursday.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (February 25, 2011) -- Golf's longest running city championship is well underway in San Francisco, with the Men's Senior division playing an 18-hole qualifier on Wednesday and their first round of matches the next day. Many of these players warmed up the prior weekend in the amateurgolf.com Monterey Four Ball. (Chuck Richesin and 2010 SF City Senior Champ Herb Jensen won a playoff in that event.)
Greg O'Malley took medalist honors in the qualifier with a solid 69; he was followed by Dan Bieber and 2010 NCGA Senior POY Mark Miller.
Defending champ Jensen faced a tough 32 seed in Rob Adolph of Fresno, but edged him 2 & 1.
Most of the top seeds advanced. The longest match of the day was a 26 hole marathon won by 16 seed Scott Anderson over 17 seed Ray Kong. No word on whether they were charged a greens fee for their emergency nine!
