Boros Cup: Amateurs down Conn. Section PGA team
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 5, 2011) -- For the third year in a row the team of amateurs from the Conn. State Golf Association have defeated the team of professionals from the Conn. Section PGA.
The CSGA team started out strong in the first several holes in each match but found themselves holding only a narrow lead (11-10) at the halfway point. The team was undeterred and emerged victorious claiming the trophy for the twelfth time in match history. This is the first time since 1983 that the CSGA team has claimed three straight victories.
The total points earned in the team four-ball matches were tied with both the CSGA and Connecticut Section PGA earning 10.5 points. The CSGA dominated the individual matches with a 24-18 advantage. Bill Lee, The Course at Yale, Tom McCarthy, Twin Hills Country Club, and Aaron Gross, Club Champion at New Haven Country Club, swept their individual matches. Professionals Bill Street of New Haven Country Club and Tom Gleeton of Country Club of Waterbury shutout their individual opponents. The only team match with a 3 point sweep was partners Fran Marrello of Canaan Country Club and Greg Farland of Quaboag Country Club.
