Briones Wins Oakland City Amateur
OAKLAND, CALIF (May 22, 2011) -- 16-year old Carlos Briones from San Lorenzo fired a final round 69 to win the Oakland City Amateur Championship by five shots over Mike Schmitz of Alameda (68-76--144) and Rion Noone of Santa Rosa (69-75--144).
Brent Booth of Los Altos took solo fourth with scores of 74-71--145 while Landon Polterock was fifth with rounds of 74-72--146.
Despite his young age, Briones is already an accomplished champion golfer in the bay area. He won the San Francisco City Championship in 2009 as a 14-year old, the youngest in tournament history.
In the Senior division, Bob Schoenherr of San Jose (74-76--150), Peter Moren of Danville (76-74-150) and Ron Johnson of Walnut Creek (76-74--150) all shared the top spot.
Pamela Calderon of Milpitas won the ladies division with scores of 84-74--158 while Katie Devin of Castro Valley shot 78-86--164 for second place.
