Memorial Amateur: Catlin Wins in Playoff
CARMICHAEL, CALIF. (May 30, 2011) -- John Catlin (71-67-70--208) won the 2011 Memorial Amateur in a three hole playoff against Cody Robinson (71-70-67--208) at the Ancil Hoffman Golf Course in Carmichael,Calif.

"I played a really solid round today," commented Catlin, a Junior at the Univeristy of New Mexico. "I just got of to a good start with pars, then I made a couple of 15-footers for birdies on holes 5 and 7."

With a bogey on No. 16 and birdie on No. 17, Catlin then found himself needing to hole a five-footer for bogey on the last hole to force a playoff.

"It was a right edge putt and I made it," said Catlin in a telephone interview after the round.

Cody Robinson, who shot an impressive 67, the low round of the day, now found himself in the playoff. He got off to a nightmare start on the first of three extra holes with a triple bogey to Catlin's par that put him three shots back with two to play. It was a deficit he would not make up.

Catlin, who is from Carmichael, has a busy summer of golf planned.

"I have the U.S Open sectional at Oakmont next week and then hopefully the U.S. Open at Congressional after that. I have the Cal State Am and the Sahallee Players confirmed and I am waiting to hear on the Pacific Coast Amateur. This win today will hopefully help me get in that field."

Catlin will finish his summer with the NCGA Stroke Play at Poppy Hills GC and he will attempt to defend his 2010 title at the NCGA Match play at Spyglass Hill GC.
