Southern California Senior Amateur Championship: Burda Leads
RIVERSIDE, CALIF (June 13, 2013) -- Three-
time defending California State Senior Amateur
Champion Jeff Burda of Modesto fired a 68 to
take a one-stroke lead after the first round of
the 34th Annual SCGA Senior Amateur
Championship at Victoria Club in Riverside. The
PGA West member had three birdies and only
one bogey over the par 70 layout.
Burda hit all nine greens on the front nine
but shot one-over 36. He rebounded with
birdies on 11, 13, & 15 and a scrappy par save
on 18 out of the greenside hazard to take the
lead.
“I hit it well today, but I just
could not get the putter going,” Burda said.
Burda enters the final round with a
narrow lead over current Northern California
Senior Amateur Champion Jim Knoll. Knoll, a
member at Moreno Valley Ranch, hit 16 out of
18 greens on his way to a solid 69 under
perfect scoring conditions.
Seventeen
players are within five strokes of Burda’s lead.
Included in this group is defending SCGA Senior
Amateur champion Brad Larsen (72), two-time
SCGA Senior Champion Steve Bogan (73),
Victoria Club member Karl Stewart (72) and
Greg Grohs (71) out of Santa Anita GC. The
final round begins at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow off
both the 1st and 10th tees.
