Southwestern Amateur Championship: 3 players tied for the lead
EL PASO, TX (June 15, 2011) -- Three players share the second round lead after 36. First round leader Alex Estrada of Belen, New Mexico followed up his course-record tying 64 in the first round with another solid round of 3 under par 69 in round 2 to share the lead at 11 under par.

Tim Madigan (67-66) of New Mexico and Stephen Carney (68-65) joined Estrada at 11 under par for 2 rounds.

The largest move of the day came from Alex McMahon of Tucson, Arizona. The 18 year old soon to be Arizona Wildcat, posted a new course record 63 during round 2 to finish 1 shot out of the lead at 10 under par 134.

Logan McCracken (66-69) and Parker Page (68-67) round out the top 6 finishers after round 2 with a 9 under par total of 135.

ABOUT THE Southwestern Amateur

72-hole stroke play championship for national-level amateurs with a handicap index of 1.4 or better. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 36 and ties. The SWGA Selection Committee will select players to compete based upon exemptions, playing resume and rankings.

The SWGA reserves the right to invite amateurs of national and international reputation, as well as other amateurs "of note", to enter into the tournament. Applicants are urged to submit their entries with golf resumes of accomplishment in major tournaments and other competitive record information.
