2011 Tennessee Women’s Amateur Champion
JONESBOROUGH, TN (June 17, 2011) --
Kendall Martindale of Jefferson City defeated
Courtney Shelton of Franklin 6&4 to claim the
71st Tennessee Women’s Amateur
Championship at Blackthorn Club. This is
Martindale’s 2nd Women’s Amateur title (2009,
2011). Kendall hopes this win will kick-start an
exciting summer as she is hopeful that she will
get to fill a spot in the U.S. Women’s Open
taking place next month in Colorado Springs,
CO at The Broadmoor, she is currently a first
alternate.
In the Championship
Consolation Final Match it was a battle to the
end for Mary Funk (Nashville) and Maria
Stapleton (Baneberry). The match went back
and forth until Funk won the 18th hole to take
the win 1 up.

ABOUT THE
Tennessee Women's Amateur
Eligibility: Open to all female amateur golfers with
the following requirements: (1) meet the USGA
policy on
transgender individuals, (2) have an active GHIN
Handicap Index from a TGA member club or course,
and (3) have a
Handicap Index of at least 36.0 at the time of entry.
Field: The field is limited to 120 players, and players
select the Division they wish to compete in. Entries
will be
accepted as received until the tournament is full.
Divisions: There are two divisions--the
Championship
Division and the Flighted Division. The Tennessee
Women's
Amateur Champion will come from the
Championship
Division only.
Championship Division Format: Contested at match
play with a 36-hole stroke play qualifier to
determine
the positions
for match play as well as medalist honors. Following
the 36-hole stroke play qualifier, the Championship
Division WILL
BE CUT to the low 32 players.
Flighted Division Format: Contested at match play
with a 36-hole stroke play qualifier to determine the
positions for
match play. Following the 36-hole stroke play
qualifier, ALL players will be divided into flights of
eight (8) to compete
in the match play portion of the event.
