Kansas Match Play: Sparks takes it

LEAWOOD, Kansas ( July 24, 2011) --Hunter Sparks, a Wichita State University golfer claimed the 101st Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship at Hallbrook Country Club in Leawood. Sparks, from Oklahoma City, defeated Kansas State's Kyle Smell 2&1 in the 36-hole final match.

Smell, from Overland Park, was the #1 seed in match play while Sparks was the #3 seed in match play. The win gives Sparks his second KGA championship of 2011 after he won The Railer, Kansas Stroke Play Championship in June.

ABOUT THE Kansas Amateur

36 holes of individual stroke play qualifying to determine low 64 players advancing to single elimination match play bracket. Any player that is not exempt from regional qualifying must go through one of the five regional qualifying sites or the second chance qualifier to advance to the championship. Open to any male amateur golfer with an active USGA/GHIN Handicap Index through a KGA member club.
