Bob Olds breaks age barrier and wins, again
ANTIOCH, CALIF. (July 31, 2011) -- Taylor Hobin, Tony McBroom and Bob Olds all won their flights in the 2011 East County Mid/Master/Senior Championship held at Lonetree Golf Club in Antioch. And while all of those victories are noteworthy, the standout performance has to go to Olds, who bettered his age by 4 shots in the first round (we won't give his age away, but he shot 67) and followed up with a 74 to post 141 for a 2 stroke victory.

Olds, who some of his golfing buddies have called "Freak of Nature" longer than a pitcher for his beloved Giants, topped a very strong Senior field. While shooting their age can be a lifetime achievement for some low handicap golfers, Olds does it regularly -- and in competition too -- accomplishing the feat in this tournament for the 5th year in a row.
Doug Johnson was second with a 143 while Jim Knoll and Ron Johnson tied for third with 144. Moving over to the other divisions, it was confirmed that Taylor Hobin's June nuptials have only resulted in a stronger golf game - he won the Mid-Am division and overall title. Scott Roak was second with a 142 while Mike Vera was third at 144. Tony McBroom won the Master division and next year and may not defend his title because he turns 55 in a couple of weeks.
