Williams jumps to 36-hole Western Amateur lead
Chris Williams once again showed the kind of game that helped him qualify for the U.S. Open, (he was medalist at his sectional qualifying) then win the Sahalee Players and Pacific Coast Amateur titles.

After shooting two straight rounds of 66 at North Shore Country Club, Williams has the attention of the field, and likely Walker Cup Captain Jim Holtgrieve, who was in attendance at the Pacific Coast Amateur in California to witness Williams' win firsthand.

Two rounds of medal play are left and should Williams win, he will surely latch onto one of the remaining 6 USA Walker Cup team picks.

Behind him at 135 is Jordan Spieth, another hopeful USA team member, fresh off a 2nd US Junior win in three years.

ABOUT THE Western Amateur

Invitational event, and the most important tournament in American amateur golf outside of the U.S. Amateur. With a grueling schedule, it's quite possibly the hardest amateur tournament to win.

156 invited players come from across the globe to play one of the toughest formats in amateur golf. The tournament starts with 18 holes of stroke play on Tuesday and Wednesday after which the field is cut to the low 44 scores and ties. Thursday it's a long day of 36 holes of stroke play to determine the “Sweet Sixteen” who compete at Match Play on Friday and Saturday (two matches each day if you're going to the finals) to decide the champion.
