Lutz leads by one at Canadian Men's Senior
PORT BLANFORD, CANADA (Aug. 25, 2011) -- Chip Lutz of Reading, Pa., holds a one stroke lead over defending champion Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C., heading into the final round at the 2011 Canadian Men’s Senior Championship at Twin Rivers Golf Course in Port Blanford, N.L.

Lutz carded a 1-over par (72) on the day to take a 4-under par (209) score and a one stroke lead into the final round at Twin Rivers Golf Course. Lutz, 56, had an up and down round carding six birdies, five bogeys, and a double on the round. At one point during the round he trailed defending champion Paul Simson by one stroke but Simson’s double bogey on the 18th hole gave Lutz the lead heading into tomorrow final round.

“I got off to a bit of a slow start and bogeyed the first hole. Paul [Simson] got off to a nice start when I was just kind of struggling through the front nine. I just kind of battled all day. Today was all about trying to hang in there,” said Lutz who is playing in his first Canadian Men’s Senior Championship.

“My win at Portrush will certainly help any time you get into a major tournament and have some success,” who won the 2011 Seniors Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. “I hope that win can add up to some confidence going forward tomorrow. I know Paul [Simson] is a great competitor so we’ll have a good test tomorrow.”

Defending champion Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C., remains in second place after an even-par second round (71). Simson carded six birdies on the day but a pair of double bogeys dropped him one stroke back heading into tomorrow final round.

Simson’s 2010 Senior Amateur season was one for the record books, as he became the first player ever to win the Canadian Men’s Senior Championship, USGA Senior Amateur Championship and the British Seniors Open Amateur Championship in the same year.

In third place is Camrose, Alta., native Frank Van Dornick who was even-par (71) to sit at 4-over par (217). Van Dornick was inducted in the Alberta Golf Hall of Fame in 2010 and holds various Amateur titles including the 1999 Alberta Amateur Championship and the 2004 Canadian Mid Amateur.

Van Dornick is trailed by Gudmund Lindbjerg of Port Moody, B.C., who shot a third-round 5-over par (76) so sit a 6-over par (219) for the championship.
