ASGA Beaver Cup Matches: Pros top amateurs
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (Oct. 30, 2011) -- Barry Howard, PGA Chapter Playing Captain and host professional for the 2nd Annual Randy Beaver Cup Matches, sent a simple email to the Professional Team Saturday night before Sunday’s Singles Matches:

“Let’s give it all we have tomorrow. We need 10 1/2 points. No regrets.” These inspirational words and outstanding play with a 12-4 win in Singles Matches led the PGA Team to its second consecutive victory, this time 17 1/2 to 14 1/2 after a 20-12 win last year.

The amateur team won the four-ball 5-3 and the foursomes 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 for a 10 1/2 - 5 1/2 lead after the first day – and needed only 6 points Sunday to win the Randy Beaver Cup, but could muster only 4. The professional team played outstanding golf Sunday. One example would be Art Romero of Texarkana CC, who was 6-under par for 17 holes in defeating 2011 USGA Senior Amateur Champion Louis Lee of Heber Springs, who was 4-under thru 17 holes and lost 2-1.

“It was an amazing feeling when I found out the scores,” Howard said. “An unbelievable comeback. The spirit of Randy Beaver and Tim Zimmerebner was definitely present today.”

Complete results of all matches are posted below and a photo of the winning PGA Team with the Beaver Cup will be posted on Monday.

Congratulations again to Captain Howard, Assistant Captain Steve Ralston and the entire PGA Chapter Team. Since the name change last year in honor of Randy Beaver, who was posthumously inducted into the 2011 Arkansas Golf Hall of Fame Thursday night, the PGA Chapter Team is undefeated at 2-0, after winning only 2 of the past 12 season-ending matches!
