Dixie Amateur Golf Tournament Underway in Florida
CORAL SPRINGS, Florida (Dec. 19, 2011) -- The 81st Annual Dixie Amateur is underway, with one of amateur golf's strongest fields of over 250 players making the trip to South Florida from all over the world.
Two-time defending champion Peter Uihlein isn't one of them, however. Uihlein, the two-time Walker Cupper and 2010 US Amateur Champion, is preparing to embark on his pro career starting with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. After unsuccessful bids at PGA and European Tour Q-Schools, he will attempt to earn his European Tour card by using his 7 sponsors exemptions.
The Dixie field has many highly ranked players and a number of high school upstarts ready to impress coaches with their play. Full results will be posted during the event.
