CARLSBAD, Calif. (Jan 8, 2012) -- For the
fourth straight year, the Amateurgolf.com
Tournament Series kicked off with a friendly
gathering of sponsors, friends, and
tournament players at the beautiful Aviara Golf
Club in Carlsbad, California.
With Spring weather and summer-like course
conditions (especially the greens), 52 players
were able to record a total of 64 birdies. Two
of those players, Scott Oxandaboure of Titleist
and Kyle Rector of Amateurgolf.com, scored
four each, but unfortunately were "topped" on
those holes.
All holes were birdied at least once, except --
for the second straight year -- No. 18,
confirming its spot as one of the toughest
closers in California.
Using a fair "half pop" format, where each
player gets 1/2 stroke on every hole where
they normally would get a full stroke, skins
were recorded by the following players:
Jesse Coull (2.5) No. 2, Par 4, 391 Yards
Maiya Tanaka (2) No. 6, Par 3, 188 Yards
John Schulte (2.5) No. 7, Par 4, 393
Yards
Terry Baxter (2.5) No. 9, Par 4, 348
Yards
Rick Taniguchi (2) No. 11, Par 3, 178
Yards
Malcolm Bund (3) No. 15, Par 4, 445
Yards
The simple-but effective handicapping of using
half strokes works out perfectly, as all skins
were made with natural birdies with half of
them going to players getting a 1/2 shot and
half of them going to players getting no
stroke. The skins paid $173 each.
