Australian Amateur: Daniel Nisbet to battle Marcel Schneider in the finals
MELBOURNE, Australia (Jan. 21, 2012) --Queensland’s Daniel Nisbet will face off against Germany’s Marcel Schneider in the final of the Australian Men’s Amateur Championship at Woodlands Golf Club.
Nisbet defeated New South Welshman Jordan Zunic 5&4 while Schneider fought out a long battle with 15 year old Ruben Sondjaja (NSW), defeating him on the 21st hole.
Nisbet, a regular on the amateur circuit for several years, is shooting for his first Australian Amateur title.
Schneider is a former Austrian Amateur champion and finished second at the German Amateur last year.
If Nisbet wins, he would be the first Queenslander since Andrew Buckle in 2001 to win the title. If Schneider wins, he’ll be the first German to win the title and the first international player since Norway’s Anders Kristiansen in 2008.
The winner also earns an exemption into the Emirates Australian Open later this year.
The 36 hole final will be held on Sunday. The first 18 holes commences at 8.45am and the second 18 holes commences at 1pm.
