Old Dominion dominates at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate

PINEHURST, NC-- The ODU Monarchs captured
the Pinehurest Intercollegiate title finishing 19
over par in 54 holes and four strokes ahead of
Eastern Kentucky and Penn State and nine
strokes ahead of Virginia Tech. ODU led from
start to finish.
Junior Garth McGee (Bangor, Northern Ireland)
shot 76 today to finish at 216 and tied for
second with Tyler Merkel of Ball State, six
strokes behind tournament winner Michael
Kania of Villanova. McGee pared 14 holes
today.
Two other Monarchs finished in the top 10.
Thomas Wilde (Bucks, England) tied for fourth
at 217 and John Dawson (Chesapeake,
VA.)tied for eighth at 219. Sawson shot 74
today, while Wilde shot 75. Wilde birdie two
holes and Dawson birdied three holes.
McGee was tied for fourth in par 3 scoring at
3.00 and fifth in par four scoring at 4.12. Wilde
and Dawson tied for second in par five scoring
at 4.44. Dawson had 11 total birdies which
was fourth in the tournament.
In the individual race, Garth Garth McGee of
Old Dominion scored one under par in each
round Saturday for a 70-70—140, but it was
Villanova's Michael Kania who led all the way.
Kania, a junior from Haverford, PA, scored a
69-68--73—210 in the 54-hole event.
