Wolfpack Intercollegiate: NC State wins for first time since 2010
RALEIGH, N.C. (April 15, 2012) -- North Carolina State picked up its first win of the season, taking the Wolfpack Spring Open behind a 5-under 283 final round to overcome first-round leader Lamar.
Playing on their home course, the par-72 Lonnie Poole Golf Course, the Wolfpack used an impressive back nine - led by sophomore All-American Albin Choi - to win for the first time since taking the Wolfpack Intercollegiate in October 2010.
Lamar finished four shots back, with East Carolina, Middle Tennessee State and Louisville rounding out the top 5.
Lamar's Luke Jerling took medalist honors, firing a final-round 68 to defeat Loyola's Jay Mulieri by a stroke. It was Jerling's first collegiate victory.
N.C. State's Mitchell Sutton posted Sunday's lowest round - a 5-under 67 - to vault from T-16 to T-3 and finish at 3 under with Francis Marion's Kenneth Svanum.
Lamar's M.J. Daffue and Louisville's Maximilian Walz tied for fifth at even par.
