Saramento County Four-Ball: First Round Results
MATHER, CALIFORNIA (October 23, 2005) -- Tournament Director Rudy Danzinger today reported results from the first weekend of play in the Sacramento County Men's Four Ball Match Play Championship.

21 teams started the weekend, trying to qualify on Saturday for the 15 available match play team positions (the defending champs were exempt). And while qualifiers, and matches, are always exciting, Tim Breland of Stockton definitely had the most heart-stopping moments. Fortunately for he and his partner, Michael Patchell of Vacaville, Breland and his putter handled the pressure like a tour player.

First, there was the Saturday playoff with three teams trying for the last spot in match play after tying with 71's. Breland's ball was apparently lost, but after 4 1/2 minutes it was found in the rough, he found the green with his second shot, and holed a 20 foot putt for birdie. Then, in the first round of match play on Sunday, Breland holed a 12-footer on the 2nd hole of sudden death.

No word on whether he's sleeping with his putter tonight, but it probably won't be changed before next weekend's matches get underway. First round match play results are shown below:
