Irish Senior Amateur: Morrow leads after Round 1
-- Golfing Union of Ireland
Palmerstown, Oranmore, County Galway, Ireland (May 30, 2012) -- Portmarnock's Adrian Morrow made the perfect start as he endeavours to better his runner-up finish at last year's Irish Seniors Amateur Open Championship, carding a level-par 70 to take the early clubhouse lead on Day 1 of the 2012 edition of the championship in Athenry.
Morrow leads by one from the highly fancied Scot Ian Brotherston, who played steadily in an opening 71, one stroke clear of Bandon's John Carroll with Bangor's Garth McGimpsey a further stroke back.
Defending champion Hugh Smyth (Mourne) carded a 74 while last year's Order of Merit winner Maurice Kelly shot an opening 75.

ABOUT THE
Irish Seniors Amateur Open
First played for in 1970 when the legendary
Cecil Ewing (Co Sligo) won the title at Lahinch,
this event has grown in strength and
popularity since then. The Championship has
proven to be a breeding ground for the Irish
Seniors Home International Team and the
European Seniors Team, as the recent list of
winners proves.
This Championship attracts a quality entry
from overseas, and no fewer than seven
winners have come from outside of Ireland.
Competitive entry process, but a handicap of
2.5-3.0 should get you in this 54 hole stroke
play event.
