Mitch Gray wins Palmetto Amateur
AIKEN, S.C. (June 10, 2012) -- Mitch Gray of Florence, South Carolina birdied his last two holes to post 2-under 69 for his final round and win the Palmetto Amateur by 5 strokes over Scott Strohmeyer, Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The four-year golfer at Campbell University, opened the event with a one-over 72 at the Palmetto Golf Club, but found a groove the next three days with rounds of 68-66-69 for 5-under-par 275 total.
Strohmeyer posted rounds of 73-69-67-71--280, even par and alone in second place.
Tom Lovelay, Birmingham, Ala., was solo third with rounds of 72-73-66-70--281 and Ben Juffer, West Des Moines, was fourth with scores of 71-73-73-65--282.
