ATLANTA, Ga., (June 30, 2012)-- The Dogwood Invitational came down to the final shots to determine the 2012 champion. Ben Kohles, a University of Virginia graduate, finished the final round at 17 under with a score of 67 securing his title as champion of the 46th annual Dogwood Invitational by 2 shots.

In second was Michael Kim, a student at the University of California who fired a 68 on the final day, but was one shot short of Kohles. Third place went to University of Virginia graduate Bruce Woodall, who had started the day in first place, falling behind the torrid pace with a 71. Both Michael Kim and Bruce Woodall finished the final round 15 under.

Local standouts, and crowd favorites, including returning players Georgia Tech’s Anders Albertson and Oliver Schniederjans and University of Georgia’s T.J. Mitchell as well as recent Sunnehanna Amateur champion Bobby Wyatt, made a good showing, falling just short of the eventual champion. The low round for the day, 67, was shot by Joey Garber and Oliver Schniederjans, tying for 6th.

“It’s been another great week of exciting amateur play here at Druid Hills,” said Edward Toledano – chairman of the Dogwood Invitational. “With a talented field full of aspiring PGA- professionals, it’s exciting to watch sensational golf on our home course and know that we are not only enjoying the best of golf, but we are also sending our 25th Reynolds scholar to Clemson. The Dogwood thrives because it’s the best of everything: volunteerism, competition, philanthropy, values and America’s greatest game – golf.”

Under intense heat, to add to the intense pressure of the finalist field, the top 40 teed off in a double tee start at the first and tenth holes; enabling play to complete the 18-hole final round before the afternoon temperature high. The top 10 players were as follows:
