Greater Houston Am: Worthing rallies to win
HOUSTON, Texas (Oct. 8, 2012) -- Bart Worthing of Fulshear came from eight strokes off the pace the final round to win the Greater Houston Men's City Amateur Championship, presented by Memorial Hermann, at Memorial Park Golf Course.
Worthing shot 69-71-71-69 for a 4-under-par 280 total, two strokes better than second and third-round leader Juan Salcedo of The Woodlands. Salcedo posted scores of 71-66-66-79. The top 10 finishers earned exemptions into the 2013 championship.
Trevor Sauntry and John Hunter finished in a tie for third at 285, followed by Scott Dawley at 287, Matt Van Zandt 288, Kip Guidry of Missuori City and Benjamin Arnett 289, Gary Durbin 290 and Trent Booher of Sugar Land 292.
Andrew Young of Conroe used a 5-iron to score a hole in one on the 191-yard, par-3 seventh hole in the second round. The starting field of 144 was cut to 42 players after the second round. It took a score of 7-over-par 149 to make it to Sunday's 36-hole finale.
