Stanford Classic at Cypress Point recap

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 31, 2012) -- A handful of the nation's top teams took to famed Cypress Point Golf Club and the play at the Stanford Classic more than lived up to the scenery.
University of Texas sophomore Kramer Hickock got the event off on the right foot with a course-record 63 on Sunday in a practice round. While it didn't count towards his individual or team score, the round tied Ben Hogan, Adam Scott and current club head professional Casey Reamer.
The event was won by UCLA, which knocked off Duke in the Championship Match, 18-6. Five of six UCLA players easily won their singles matches, capturing 18 of a possible 24 points.
Freshman Lorens Chan and senior Pontus Widegren defeated Duke's Adam Sumrail and Julian Suri, respectively, by scores of 4-0. Senior Pedro Fiegueiredo and sophomore Manav Shah won their matches by identical 3.5-1.5 scores. Sophomore Matt Pinizzotto beat Tim Gornik, 3-1. Freshman Jonathan Garrick lost 4-0 to Duke's Brinson Paolini.
The Stanford Classic at Cypress Point Golf Club featured Washington, USC, Georgia, Michigan and host Stanford, in addition to the aforementioned teams. The first round of play was four-ball followed by foursomes and then singles matches on the final day.
