Elite field takes aim at 82nd Dixie Amateur
Pairings for the 82nd Dixie Amateur
Championship have been
released ahead of the first round of play
Tuesday, Dec. 18 at
Heron Bay Golf Club, Woodlands Country
Club
and Palm-Aire
Country Club in South Florida.
Once again, the Dixie Amateur, scheduled
Dec.
18-21, is
among the top winter tournaments in the
nation. A deep and
talented field filled with some of the
biggest
names in amateur,
collegiate and junior golf will all take aim
next
week at the
prestigious title.

Defending champion Curtis Thompson, a
sophomore at LSU and
the No. 9 player in the
Golfweek/amateurgolf.com U.S. Player
Rankings, will be in attendance hoping to
add
another Dixie
title to his trophy case.
Thompson, the brother of LPGA star Lexi
Thompson, will join
2012 U.S. Mid-Amateur finalist Garrett
Rank
(ranked No. 72nd
worldwide) and Florida State sophomore
Daniel
Berger, ranked
No. 12 in the U.S. in perhaps the
strongest
grouping to kick off
play
Tuesday. The talented trio will begin play
at
Heron Bay Golf
Club in Coral Springs, Fla. --- the
hometown of
the defending
champ.
Georgia Tech junior and reigning Porter
Cup
champion Richy
Werenski is among the most accomplished
players in the field.
Werenski opens play at Palm-Aire on
Tuesday.
Also at Palm-
Aire will be Alex Carpenter, the 2010
Southern
Amateur
champion, aiming for a second marquee
victory
on the national
stage.
The top juniors include: Zachary Bachou,
an
accomplished
tournament player on the AJGA circuits
with a
win and five Top
10 finishes in 2012; Eric Hallberg, the son
of
Champions Tour
player Gary Hallberg, who boasts a T-4 at
the
2012 St.
Augustine Amateur; Matthew Marquez,
the
2012 Caribbean
Junior Amateur winner.

Historic Florida amateur golf tournament
that
is
open to former Dixie Amateur champions,
tournament committee invitees and
qualifiers for
major amateur championships.
The Dixie has a traditionally strong
field due to college break, and a
past-champions list that includes many PGA
Tour
players as well as top-ranked amateurs.
72-hole stroke play
championship with a 54 hole cut down to 66 players
and ties. The field
limit will be 108 players. Played
