Coral Springs (Dec. 19, 2013) – First-round leader Daniel Berger opened an impressive six-shot lead after the midway point of the 82 nd Dixie Amateur Championship, posting a four-under par 67 on the Woodlands Country Club West Course.

Berger, of Jupiter, Fla., and a sophomore at Florida State University, followed his 64 at Heron Bay and is at 13-under par, 130 ahead of Derek Oland of McKinney, Texas and Andri Bjornsson of Reykjavik, Iceland, who are tied at seven-under 136. Both players shot second-consecutive rounds of 68 each.

Berger’s friend and playing partner for the first two days Curtis Thompson, who just happened to win last year’s Dixie Amateur, is 12 shots behind after a five-over par 76, a full 10 shots worse than his opening day score.

Phillippe Schweizer of Mellingen, Switzerland, had the days best round, an 8-under 64 on the 7,086 yard Heron Bay Golf Club, which moved him into a tie for fourth place alongside Hunter O’Mahoney of Tequesta, Fla. Both are at six-under par.

The field of 259 golfers is also playing the Palm Aire Cypress course at 6,808 yards. Woodlands Country Club West course is 6,825 yards in length. All three courses are ClubLink South Florida properties.

After Thursday’s play when all of the golfers have finished a round on each course in the rotation, the field will be cut for the final round at Heron Bay on Friday.
