Berger extends lead to 9 at Dixie Am
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (Dec. 20, 2012) – Jupiter, Fla., resident Daniel Berger has just about turned the 82nd Dixie Amateur into a one-man tournament, opening a nine-shot lead after closing his third round with a 7-under par 65 on the 6,825 yard Woodlands Country Club West Course, one of three ClubLink courses in Broward County being used for the event.

Berger sits at 20-under par, 195 and is nine shots ahead of Birmingham, Ala., resident Tom Lovelady, who managed to gain two strokes following a 9-under par 63 at Heron Bay Golf Club.

Lovelady, alone in second place at 204, and Trey Mullinax of Mount Olive, Ala., tied the low round of the tournament while playing Heron Bay where conditions were ideal for scoring. Mullinax is third at 206.

Derek Oland of McKinney, Texas is another shot back at 207 in fourth position while there is a three-way tie for fifth at 208, a dozen shots off the lead.

Defending champion Curtis Thompson played his way out of contention the past two days, following Wednesday’s 76 with a 3-over-par 75 at Woodlands.

The field of 259 golfers was trimmed to the low 72 and ties with 73 players making the cut. The final round will be played on the 7,086 yard Heron Bay course where the best scores have been posted all week. The Palm Aire Cypress Course, playing at 6,808 yards for the event, is the third course used in the rotation.
