Mississippi Mid-Am: Snow holds on for win
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (March 24, 2013) -- Despite the strong winds and difficult conditions, Ben Snow was able to hold onto his second round lead after firing a 74 in the final round of the Mid Amateur Championship. An eagle on the sixth hole and three birdies outside of that were surely enough to edge past the competition and win by one stroke.
Superior play during the second round (72-65-74 - 211) set Snow three strokes ahead of the competition at the start of the final round. Snow was certainly a top pick for the championship considering his experience at Hattiesburg Country Club during his college years as a member of the Southern Miss Men's Golf Team.
Three others, Lane Pippin, Joel Myrick and Brandon Laird, remained in the hunt down to their final strokes. All came in as the runner-ups, posting four-under par totals of 212. Congrats to all competitors during the championship. Also, congrats to the Randy Sullivan Memorial Medalits, Joel Myrick, for his opening low round of 68. Snow and Myrick were awarded the Mid Amateur trophies during the awards presentation following the close of the competition. The field was strong and many were complimentary of the conditions of the course.
Hattiesburg Country Club continues to be a draw to many of the top amateurs in Mississippi. As expected, the course was in great condition for the first championship of the 2013 season. Many thanks to the staff and members of the Country Club for opening their course to the Mississippi Golf Association and serving as a great host to amateurs of the state. Frank Ogletree went above and beyond to have the course in its best condition and we appreciate his commitment to the course. Thanks to course professional, David Allen, for his continued hospitality during the championship.
