Mike McCoy of West Des Moines, Iowa posted a final round 71 to cap
off a 5-under performance for 54 holes at the
2013 Coleman Invitational at
Seminole Golf Club. McCoy, according to Seminole Golf Club Director
of Tournament Operations Eri Seguin, played a nearly flawless round
of golf en route to a final round 71 and a three day total of 211.
The round of the tournament belonged to Skip Berkmeyer who posted
66 to open on Thursday, giving him the early lead by a single shot
over Parker Smith while McCoy lurked 3-shots out of the lead at 69.
and was three shots up on Mike McCoy.
PAUL SIMSON WINS COLEMAN SENIOR INVITATIONAL
Paul Simson, like Championship Division winner Mike McCoy, saved his
best golf for the final round and posted the same score as McCoy
(71) to come from behind and capture the Senior Division of the
2013 Coleman Senior
Invitational at prestigious Seminole Golf Club.
Tim Miller started the day four strokes ahead of Simson, -- one of
the most highly decorated senior golfers in the country who in 2010
captured the "trifecta" of the U.S., British, and Canadian Senior
Amateurs -- but slid a bit (final round 77) which is easy to do at
Seminole. Miller finished second, tied alongside Chip Lutz.
DYCHE, POOL PREVAIL AT WHISPER ROCK INVITATIONAL
Barry Dyche and Jason Pool shot rounds of 65-67-71--203 to win the
Whisper
Rock National Invitational at prestigious Whisper Rock Golf Club.
The winners opened play at the club's Lower Course and took an
early lead. A second-round 67 at the lengthier Upper Course gave
them a cushion that wouldn't be relinquished.
The teams of Kane Hanson and Dave Kelly (67-65-75--207), Joe
Bendetti and Jim Strickland (66-75-66--207) and Chance Holmes and
Eddie Sanchez (70-72-65--207) all tied for second place.
In the Senior Division, Mike Kloenne and Brian Little won by two shots
over a pair of groups.
CAL'S PACE JOHNSON WINS ALAMEDA COMMUTERS
If not for a double bogey on a par 5 during Saturday’s round, Pace
Johnson would have been even more excited about his weekend at
the Alameda Commuters. Despite the 7, though, the 22-year-old Cal
red shirt, closed brilliantly, firing weekend rounds of 64-66 to win
with ease at the
2013 Alameda Commuters.
Johnson, of Fresno, was in the mix but trailed leader Shotaro Ban
after the first two rounds of play last weekend. His red-hot 64 on
Saturday was accompanied by another stellar round in Sunday’s
finale and the field simply didn’t have a chance.
GALLERY INVITATIONAL: PEEBLES/ROSEN, WHITNEY/SWEIGART
TAKE TITLES
Fifteen states were represented at the 2013 Gallery Invitational, but
local teams
captured
both Championship and Senior Divisions.
Chris Peebles and Matt Rosen, both playing out of Tucson Country
Club, withstood a Saturday charge by Bryan Hoops (Arizona Country
Club) and Jeremy Defalco (Tucson Country Club) to win the
Championship Division by a single stroke.
In the Senior Division, Gallery Golf Club member Cyrus Whitney and
partner Tom Sweigart of Del Lago Golf Club posted 8-under 64 in on
Friday on the North Course, and followed it with a 7-under 65 on the
South to run away with the Senior Division at 15-under 129. Steven
Borget and Randy Hicken of Utah finished in second at 7-under 137.
