Kanza Cup: West team wins shortened event
MISSION HILLS, Kan. (May 5, 2013) -- The West team won the 2nd Kanza Players Cup on Friday by 7.5 point to 4.5 point margin over the their opponents from the East team.
The competition being held at Mission Hills Country Club was shortened by one day and the foursome matches cancelled following a wild weather day on Thursday that saw strong winds, cold temperatures, rain, sleet and snow. The West team took 2.5 points of the 4 available points in the four-ball matches that were played on Thursday. On Wednesday,the West team won five of the eight singles matches to take an early lead in the competition.
The Kanza Players Cup is a Ryder Cup style team competition for Kansas mid-amateurs.
Players are divided into East and West squads based on a pre-determined dividing line in the Sunflower State. The top eight available players from the east and west (16 players total) based on the KGA Mid-Amateur Player-of-the-Year points list from 2012 qualify for the championship.
