Wash. Metro Mid-Am: Delmar goes low for win
CENTREVILLE, Virg. (May 27, 2013) -- Steven Delmar, assistant golf coach at the University of Maryland, reeled off four birdies and an eagle on his final nine of the 36-hole day to close with a five-under par 67 that gave him a two-round total of four-under 140 and a four-stroke margin over 2011 Maryland Amateur champion Mark Cusic (73-71) and recent Oak Tree Invitational winner Brandon Cigna (70-74) in the 27th Metropolitan Mid-Amateur at Chantilly National Golf & Country Club.
Last summer Delmar edged Cusic at the Maryland Amateur Public Links at Greystone north of Baltimore.
Travis Russell (73-72) and Joe Scheffres (74-72) took fourth and fifth places in the championship on the 6,737 yard Chantilly course. They were followed by Matt Wills (72-75), Jason Pool (74-73) and Brenton Flynn (78-69) at 147. Matt Sughrue claimed ninth place at 70-78--148.
The 2014 Metro Mid-Amateur will be conducted on Thursday, May 22 at Manor Country Club.
