Wild finish at Fla. South Four-Ball
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (June 2, 2013) -- Each year the FSGA holds two Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championships, one in South Florida and another in North Florida. The South Championship was held at Riverwood Golf Club in Port Charlotte while the North was played at Sugar Mill Country Club in New Smyrna Beach.

At the South Championship, three teams took the first round lead with a 64 (-8), but many teams were within a few strokes. In the final round, Charles Alaimo and Michael Vickers shot a 33 on the front nine and then made a very timely eagle on the 17th for another 33 to post a 130 tournament total (-14).

The team of Don Whittemore and Daniel Debra started the day just one stroke back and made up a bunch a ground with a 31 (-5) on the front nine. On the back nine they birdied the 16th and 17th holes and made a par on the 18th to also post a total of 130 which would send them into a playoff.

The playoff went to the 18th hole and the teams tied with pars on their first hole. They went back to the 18th again and Alaimo and Vickers made an easy par. Whittemore and Debra both had five foot par putts to keep the playoff going, but neither putts found the hole leaving Alaimo and Vickers the 2013 Mid-Amateur Four-Ball South Champions.
