Sam Love leads rain-altered Palmetto
UPDATE: Due to Tropical Storm Andrea, the third round has been canceled and play will continue on Saturday. To accommodate a two tee start on Saturday, the field will be cut to the low 63 players and ties, which will result in a field of 69 players that have a score of 148 or better.
AIKEN, South Carolina (June 6, 2013) -- Sam Love of Trussville, Alabama came out firing on all cylinders on Thursday at the Palmetto Invitational.

Not bothered by a rain-soaked Thursday afternoon, Love birdied the first hole, and it was a good omen for the day. Another birdie on No. 5 and the rest pars gave him a 32 on the par-34 front side.

But it wasn't until the back nine that Love really caught fire. After a bogey on No. 10, the UAB golfer birdied 13, 14, 15 and 18 to post 3- under 33 on the back nine, vaulting him to the top of the leaderboard.

First round leader Davin White struggle to a 74 to stand T8 at 1-under. But Carson Jacobs of Hendersonville, TN, who was in second place after round 1, shot 70 to sit in a tie for second at 136 with Scott Stohmeyer (69-67) of Tuscaloosa.

The 72-hole event continues on Friday with the final round scheduled for Saturday, June 8.

Highly-ranked junior and Clemson commit Cody Proveaux shot a second-round 71 and moved up to a tie for eighth place. He's one shot better than a group of four at even par 140 that includes Cal red shirt freshman and Alameda Commuters winner Pace Johnson, who shot a 1-under 69 in Round 2.

Former PGA Tour pro John Engler is in a tie for 23rd at 2-over. He shot his second straight 71 despite the lousy conditions.

Thomas Bradshaw, the defending Rice Planters champion bounced back after an opening- round 74 with a 1-under 69 and is tied for 31st. He sits alongside LSU ace Curtis Thompson (69-74) and North Carolina mid- amateur Matthew Crenshaw (71-72).
