The Cascades, formerly known as Briarwood (named for the adjacent Greenbriar and Bellwood lakes), was built in 1957. Local golf pro Johnny Henry designed the first nine holes, and Johnny Pace, the club’s first full-time pro, designed the back nine. The golf course at The Cascades was completely redesigned in 2002 by PGA Tour star Mark Hayes as part of a multimillion-dollar renovation led by Lew Anderton. The first two holes play along Lake Bellwood, and the rest of the course winds through a mixed hardwood forest. A number of PGA greats have won tournaments here through the years, including Jackie Cupit, Homero Blancas, Fred Couples and Payne Stewart.
