Amateur Michael Perras in third place at Texas State Open
Michael Perras
LEWISVILLE, Texas — Though former Colorado State golfer Dustin Morris holds a six-shot lead at the Texas State Open, the story for amateur players is the stellar golf played by University of Houston sophomore Michael Perras. His third-round 63, which featured nine birdies and zero bogeys, helped him climb into third place entering the final round.
“Being the Low Amateur so far this week is really exciting. I’m really proud of myself with this being my first professional event, and this 63 ties my career lowest round ever. It’s a great event to do it in, and I’m just really excited about tomorrow,” Perras told the Northern Texas PGA.
Another amateur, Kolton Crawford of Mansfield, Texas, sits four-back of Perras after shooting a 4-under par 68 on Thursday, putting him at 8-under par 208 for the tournament.
Crawford, a senior at the University of Arkansas, was second low amateur at last year's Texas State Open, finishing three back of Austin Smotherman.
