Hermitage features two 18 hole championship courses and practice range facilities. The Manakin Course was originally designed by Ed Ault in 1973. It was redesigned in 2005 by Keith Foster and received the 2006 award by Golf Digest as the #5 Best New Remodel in the country. The Manakin features bentgrass greens and fairways and bluegrass/fescue roughs. The Sabot Course was renovated by Arthur Hills in 2000. The Sabot features water on 13 of its holes. The greens are bentgrass and the fairways and roughs are bermudagrass.
Hermitage hosted the 1949 PGA Championship won by the late Sam Snead. The club remains the only Virginia club to have hosted a major championship. From 1983 to 1990, the club hosted the Crestar Classic. Arnold Palmer won his last golf tournament in 1988 at Hermitage Country Club.
