Mason-Dixon Matches: Mid-Atlantic edges Philadelphia
BETHLEHEM, Penn. (Oct. 13, 2013) -- Marty West and Mike Kelly of the Middle Atlantic GA edged Tom Bartolucci and Ray Thompson in opening 1 up matches to set the tone for the team's comeback in the 62nd Mason-Dixon Match at Saucon Valley's Weyhill Course that resulted in a 10 1/2 - 7 1/2 triumph.
After the two early wins by the MAGA, the GAP turned the tables and won the next four matches: Junior Cole Berman 2&1 over junior Mark Lawrence; Cory Siegfried 1 up over Jason Pool, Michael Kania 2 up over Pete DeTemple and Paul Tighe 4&3 over Ryan McCarthy.
However, then the MAGA stormed back with six successive wins in the final matches: Joe Scheffres 3&2 over Ben Smith; Brandon Cigna 1 up over Joe April; Matt Sughrue 2&1 over Matthew Mattare; Jake Yount 5&4 over John Brennan; Jeff Castle 2&1 over Glenn Smeraglio and Marc Cusic 8&7 over Peter Barron III.
With the 8 - 4 singles margin on Sunday, the Middle Atlantic overcame a 3 1/2 - 2 1/2 deficit in the opening Four-Ball matches on Saturday.
The 63rd Mason-Dixon Match will be played October 11-12 at Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown, MD.
