McLeod wins Monterey Bay Championship
SEASIDE, Calif. (May 25, 2014) -- Evan McLeod of Pebble Beach, a rising Sophomore at Santa Clara University, blitzed the field with four birdies, an eagle, and just a single bogey for a stellar 67 and 5-shot win over Daniel Griffiths at the AmateurGolf.com Monterey Bay Championship presented by Callaway Golf.
McLeod's round is right up there in with any of the top rounds played at an AmateurGolf.com event, especially considering the challenge of Bayonet -- a 7104 monster that has a course rating of 74.8 and a slope of 141 and just never gives you much of a breather.
Griffiths' was the only other round under par today and that came from Daniel Griffiths who finished second with a two day total 145.
JT Harper finished alone in third at 146.
The sun came out and the wind was steady for today's final round at Bayonet (the first round was contested at Black Horse) and the course conditions were ideal.
Richard Petit (Menlo Park) extended his lead and won the senior division by three over Gregory Sgarlato of San Jose and Michael Donovan of Oakland.
The net division ended in a card playoff won by Scott Vonderohe (Mountain View) over Charles Balisha of Turlock. Both players posted a two day total of 148.
